NYPD: F Train Rider Bites Another Passenger After Being Asked To Move Her Bag

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A subway rider became violent after she was asked by a fellow straphanger to move her bag from a seat, police said.

The incident occurred on a Manhattan-bound F train from Queens at around 9:45 a.m. last Friday when the 45-year-old victim asked the suspect to move her bag so she could sit down.

When the suspect ignored her, the victim tried to sit down anyway, police said.

That's when the suspect pushed the victim, scratched her on the chest, pulled her hair and bit her on the forearm, causing her to bleed, police said.

The suspect fled when the train stopped at the 21st Street and Queenbridge station in Long Island City.

Subway riders were stunned after hearing about the incident.

"All she had to do was take her bag and let her sit down," Mary Jenkins told CBS2's Scott Rapoport. "You're supposed to be courteous to others. That was terrible. That was terrible."

"It's like, oh my God, people really do that nowadays?" Nicole Simpson added.

"To beat someone up over a pocketbook, that's terrible," Anthony Mannino said.

The victim was treated at Mt. Sinai Hospital and is expected to be okay, CBS2's Matt Kozar reported.

Police have released a picture of the suspect, who remains at large.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, visit the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
