Seen At 11: Patches Promise Quick Delivery Of Cutting Edge Beauty Products

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Women and some men will try just about anything that promises younger looking skin.

The latest craze targets problem spots and promises a youthful glow -- with a simple beauty patch.

"What I need is something I can put on quickly, get a result, and forget about it," Angela Ranieri.

Ranieri told CBS2's Dana Tyler that the solution is a patch.

"I keep the patches in my kitchen cabinet next to my coffee," she said, "After I use it I look rested even when I'm not."

Makers claim that the patches deliver cutting edge ingredients to where they're needed most.

"There are great ingredients -- hylaruronic acid, vitamin C, vitamin A, retinol," said Chris Hobson, chief executive officer of Patchology.

The Patchology patch goes a step further, with a battery operated microcurrent that claims to boost the beauty benefit. It's $75 for twelve treatments.

For $69, Strivectin has a light, gel-like patch, that targets wrinkles with their own proprietary ingredients.

"There is a whole group or consumers who do not want to use needles that do not want the more aggressive botox and lip injections. They are looking at cosmetic alternatives," said Smitha Rao vice president of product development at Strivectin.

Dr. James Heskett said the patch principle is solid.

"It actually is more successful than just slathering cremes on your body at night, because the longer your body is in contact with the cosmetic or the medicine, the more absorption you get," he said.

The Frownies is the patch that started it all, back in 1889. There aren't any fancy ingredients in the $20 patches.

"Frownies, facial patches work on the muscle underneath the skin, not so much on the skin, you still need to treat your skin," said Kat Wright, CEO at Frownies.

The principal is similar to kinesiology tape, reshaping the muscle under the skin. It's an old school approach that still has its fans and some impressive before and after photos.

"I had a more pronounced crease here that it started to smooth out. The fine lines here, I'm still working on this," Barbara Willsea said.

For best results it's suggested that Frownies be worn overnight.

Other patches can be used several times a week and worn for about five to fifteen minutes a day.
