CBS2 Sources: Tourist From Argentina Arrested For Climbing Cables Of Brooklyn Bridge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A tourist from Argentina was arrested after climbing the cables of the Brooklyn Bridge Wednesday night, sources told CBS2.

Around 8:45 p.m., an officer on patrol on the walkway of the Manhattan side of the bridge spotted the man climbing the cables, sources said. The officer then waited for the man to come down and arrested him, sources said.

The man, identified as 23-year-old Jorge Arredono, was charged with criminal trespass and reckless endangerment, sources said.

The Brooklyn Bridge has been the subject of several high-profile trespassing incidents in the past year.

A college student from Tennessee who found his way onto an unauthorized area of the bridge and took a selfie in June was arrested last month in his home state.

In August of last year, Russian tourist Yaroslav Kolchin was arrested for allegedly scaling the bridge. He claimed he only wanted to take photos of the top.

In July of last year, two American flags on the Brooklyn Bridge's towers were replaced with whitewashed versions of Old Glory. Two German artists later claimed responsibility.

The New York City Department of Transportation later installed new barriers to prevent anyone from climbing to the top of the span.
