Surveillance Pic Shows Man Wanted In Chemical Attack On Woman In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Investigators are hoping for a new lead as the search continues for a man accused of throwing a caustic liquid at a woman in Queens last month.

The victim was getting into her car on Skillman Avenue on Aug. 19 when the suspect called out to her and then splashed her in the face with the unknown substance when she turned around, police said.

On Thursday, police released a surveillance image showing the suspect from behind. A sketch of the suspect was previously released.

Sources told CBS2 the victim of the attack is Alexandra Dyer, 59, the executive director of the Healing Arts Initiative. The group works with those facing social, mental or physical challenges.

Dyer told police she got in her car and tried to get away, but the burning was so bad she only made it 200-feet. A passerby called 911.

Dyer said she did not know the attacker, who left her with chemical burns to the face and eyes. She was treated at a hospital for third-degree burns and released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
