Jets Loved By Week 1 Oddsmakers And Future Hall Of Famer

By Abraham Gutierrez

With a clean slate, Todd Bowles and the New York Jets kickoff the 2015 NFL campaign as the NFL betting odds favorites versus the visiting Cleveland Browns in Week 1. And while playing – and dealing with the media – in the Big Apple can be tricky at times, Gang Green's new head coach is getting nothing but love from a future Hall of Famer, NFL oddsmakers and the betting population right out of the gate.

Jason Taylor Praises Bowles Prior To Week 1

Known mostly for his contributions as a member of the Miami Dolphins, future Hall of Fame (defensive end/linebacker) Jason Taylor recently offered his thoughts on the post-Rex Ryan era. In particular, the six-time Pro Bowler was asked to weigh-in on Bowles' ability to right the ship, and lead the Jets back into contention in the ultra-competitive AFC East.

"He's freaking perfect," said the former two-time Defensive Player of the Year during a phone interview. "Schematically, forget about it. There's nobody out there that can touch him…. He's honest, very honest, and he'll tell the players exactly where they are and what they need to do. He'll have a very focused, disciplined team that won't have a ton of mental errors or penalties. He won't put up with that."

Browns vs. Jets NFL Week 1 Odds

2015 NFL betting experts agree, and as of Thursday morning, the J-E-T-S! (-3) are listed as betting favorites to get off to a 1-0 start by defeating the Dawg Pound (+3) by at least a field. The OVER/UNDER for this AFC East vs. AFC North clash is set at a combined total of 39½ points, and Cleveland's straight-up value equals +150, while New York's SU moneyline is set at -170.

Browns vs. Jets ATS & O/U Consensus

Just days removed from the start of the 2015 NFL season, the general consensus among bettors is that the smart money is on Bowles' Gang. In fact, 60 percent of the population like New York's chances as -3 favorites in front of the home crowd, while only 40 percent beg to differ.

Statistically, O/U action dictates that defense will be the name of the game Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. At the present time, 64 percent of the action has been placed on the Browns and Jets to combine and score UNDER 39½ points, while only 36 percent of bettors believe they will surpass that mark by going OVER.

Browns vs. Jets Head-to-Head ATS Trends

The first piece of information to take into account in this category is that the betting favorite is undefeated with a 5-0 ATS record in the last 5 meetings between these ballclubs. Also supporting a Jets bet is the fact that New York is 4-0 in its last four games against intraconference rivals, and 4-1 in its last 5 ATS games overall. However, pro-Cleveland bettors also have plenty to feel good about, as the Browns are 4-1 in both, their last 5 road games, as well as their last 5 games played on fieldturf.

Nevertheless, detractors will hone in on the fact that this team is notoriously slow out of the gate. ATS trends show the one chink on Cleveland's armor, as the Dawgs are just 3-12-1 against the spread in their last 16 games in Week 1.

Browns O/U Trends To Consider

UNDER is 9-0 in Cleveland's last 9 games versus the American Football Conference

Jets O/U Trends To Consider

UNDER is 6-2 in NY's last 8 games overall

UNDER is 5-2 in NY's last 7 games in Week 1
