LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch Service Restored After Train Hits Vehicle In Bethpage
BETHPAGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Trains are running again on the Long Island Rail Road's Ronkonkoma branch after a train struck a car at a Bethpage crossing.
Service was restored around 9 a.m. Thursday after being suspended for hours in both directions between Ronkonkoma and Hicksville.
The Manhattan-bound train struck the car around 6 a.m., but no injuries were reported. LIRR spokesman Aaron Donovan told Newsday that the vehicle was "apparently unoccupied.''
The car has since been removed. Trains are now moving through the area, but only the south side track as crews continue to make repairs. Riders should expect possible delays.
