Mets Pitching Coach Dan Warthen Goes To Hospital With Irregular Heartbeat

ATLANTA (CBSNewYork/AP) — New York Mets manager Terry Collins doesn't expect pitching coach Dan Warthen to be laid up much longer after being admitted to an Atlanta hospital because of an irregular heartbeat.

"I just got a text from him and he was eating cake, so he couldn't be that bad (off)," Collins said after the Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 7-2 on Thursday night.

Team spokesman Jay Horwitz said Warthen left Turner Field before the game and that a team official drove him to the hospital. The Mets did not say which hospital admitted Warthen.

The 62-year-old Warthen has been New York's pitching coach since June 17, 2008.

Collins added that he doesn't expect Warthen to rejoin the team Friday.

The first-place Mets hold a 7 1/2-game lead over the Nationals in the NL East.
