Police: Man Tried To Rape Woman In Staten Island Apartment

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Saturday were searching for a suspect they said tried to rape a woman on Staten Island.

Around 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, the suspect followed the 20-year-old woman into her home near Dongan Avenue and Manor Road in the Castleton Corners section of Staten Island, police said.

The suspect forced his way into the woman's apartment, sexually abused her, and tried to rape her before she screamed and he ran off, police said.

The woman was taken to an area hospital, where her condition was reported to be stable, police said.

Police have released surveillance photos and video.
