Woman Found Dead In High-Rise Fire Near East River

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was found dead Tuesday afternoon when a fire broke out in a high-rise building near the East River.

Police were called for a fire at building at 45 Sutton Pl. South, near East 55th Street, just after 2 p.m., according to the NYPD.

They found the body of the 66-year-old woman inside a 14th-floor apartment, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The woman's name was being withheld pending family notification late Tuesday, police said.
