Francesa: Mets' Harvey Looks More 'Like Cinderella' Than Dark Knight After Sunday's Early Exit

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Mets turned Sunday night's showdown against the Yankees into a "March exhibition game" when they pulled pitcher Matt Harvey after five masterful innings, WFAN host Francesa said Monday.

Harvey left the game with a 1-0 lead, having allowed just one hit. The Mets' bullpen then squandered the final game of the Subway Series in embarrassing fashion, as six relievers contributed to the 11-2 collapse.

Harvey's workload has been a hot-button issue within the organization in recent weeks, as the "Dark Knight" approaches his doctor-recommended 180-inning limit following undergoing Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in October 2013.

Sunday night's turn of events sent Francesa into a rage.

"You have clinched nothing, and it would be nice to keep maybe your eye on the ball," he said on his show. " ... You had this special player here. Now you have done everything you could to neuter him as a force.

"The bottom line is this was Harvey. This was your Dark Knight, and you turned it into a very dark night very quickly by pulling him out of the game 77 pitches into a performance."

The Yankees took two of three games in the series. The Mets have a six-game lead over the Nationals in the NL East.

Francesa also questioned how the Mets could possibly be preparing their ace for the playoffs while steadily reducing his innings in the final weeks of the regular season.

"You're telling me somehow if that kid pitched into the eighth inning last night and threw 105 pitches, somehow his arm's going to fall off or it's going to affect him the rest of the way?"

"He's in front of his locker, looking like a pathetic character," Francesa said of after the game. "Dark Knight? Looks like Cinderella!"
