Police: Victim Fights Back In Stamford Home Invasion

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- The victim of a home invasion turned the tables on his alleged attackers in Stamford on Monday night, police said.

Two men knocked on the door of a home on Alton Road just after 11 p.m. and told the 46-year-old homeowner they had struck his car, police said.

"When he opened the door to look into the situation, they [the suspects] attempted to overpower him and beat him quite severely," Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin said.

The victim fought back, Conklin said.

"He had gotten to a knife and stabbed one of the suspects," Conklin said. "Our uniform responding very quickly, found him running down the street and took him into custody."

The other suspect was found hiding under a van, Conklin said.

Joseph Donofrio and Michael Polizzi, who are both 32 years old and from New York, have been charged with home invasion, armed robbery, assault and conspiracy, police said.

Bond was set at $500,000 each.

Investigators believe the home was targeted, Conklin said.

The homeowner suffered multiple fractures to his face and skull. He is recovering, Adams reported.
