NYC To Hire More Lawyers To Help Keep People From Being Evicted

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio thinks one way to fight homelessness is to keep people from being evicted, especially from areas where rents are skyrocketing.

On Monday, the city will announce a plan to double the budget for lawyers who help financially stressed residents stay in their homes, CBS2 reported.

It's of particular concern in rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods, like the Lower East Side.

The city will increase funding for legal teams from $34 million this year, to $60 million by mid-2017, CBS2 reported.
