Cops: Unoccupied Rockland Home Was Being Used As Marijuana Grow Facility
VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police raided an unoccupied Rockland County house Tuesday that was being used as a marijuana grow facility.
In the early-morning raid at 8 Thomas Court in Valley Cottage, cops seized about 200 marijuana trees and more than 30 buckets containing marijuana seeds, CBS2's Alice Gainer reported.
Police and hazmat crews were still on the scene late Tuesday afternoon. Officers wore special respiratory gear because of all the plants in the home.
So far, no arrests have been made.
Police said the raid is part of an investigation that has been going on for months, but they wouldn't say what tipped them off.
"As you can see, this is a quiet residential neighborhood," Clarkstown police Officer Peter Walker said. "Thankfully, there was no safety concerns. Obviously, no one wants this in their backyard."
Neighbors surrounding Thomas Court said they were floored to learn about what was going on. They said the home has been rented out from time to time, but it has otherwise sat unoccupied for the past two years.
