Matt Harvey, A-Rod Nominated For Comeback Player Of The Year Award
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Who doesn't love a good comeback? Especially in New York?
Mets ace Matt Harvey and Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez have been nominated for the Comeback Player of the Year Award in their respective leagues.
In addition to A-Rod, the candidates in the American League are Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder and Royals designated hitter Kendrys Morales.
Rodriguez missed all of 2014 due to a season-long drug suspension. He's exceeded expectations this season, playing 147 games. The 40-year-old is hitting .252 with 33 home runs and 86 RBIs and has posted a .356 on-base percentage.
Fielder is batting .309 with 23 home runs and 96 RBIs, and Morales is hitting .291 with 22 dingers and 106 runs batted in.
Harvey is competing against Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and Reds first baseman Joey Votto in the National League.
Harvey didn't pitch last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but has emerged as a co-ace of the Mets' staff along with Jacob deGrom. He's 13-7 with a 2.80 ERA, and has 177 strikeouts to 37 walks in 183 1/3 innings pitched.
Gonzalez is batting .269 with 40 blasts and 96 RBIs. Votto has a .317 average to go along with 29 long balls and 79 RBIs. He also has an outstanding .463 on-base percentage.
The winners will be announced on the MLB Network on November 9.
