Police: Man Hits Girlfriend Over Head With Toilet Tank, Stabs Her Repeatedly

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man is accused of trying to kill his girlfriend.

Police said 50-year-old Michael Taylor and the 53-year-old victim got into an argument in bathroom of their Uniondale home around 12:25 a.m. Saturday.

The argument escalated when Taylor hit the victim over the head with the toilet tank, knocking her unconscious, authorities said.

Taylor allegedly stabbed the victim repeatedly about the head, neck and back with a knife until she woke up and managed to escape, police said.

When police arrived authorities said Taylor refused to leave the home. Police said after two hours of trying to make contact with Taylor, officers found him hiding inside a wall in the basement.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

Taylor is charged with second-degree attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal contempt, and aggravated criminal contempt, police said.

He was expected to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
