Police: Leonia Cop Found $25,000 Worth Of Heroin In Illegally Parked Car

LEONIA, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A police sergeant investigating an illegally parked car in Leonia, New Jersey ended up uncovering $25,000 worth of uncut heroin, authorities said.

The Record reported Shawn Downing, 24; Rashad Scrivens, 27; and Hannah Sensel, 19, were all charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and related drug offenses.

Sgt. Robert Kennedy noticed a vehicle with a temporary Virginia license plate was parked illegally on Broad Avenue in Leonia around 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to Leonia police Chief Thomas Rowe

Rowe said the sergeant noticed a small bag of marijuana in the car, prompting a search that included help from the Bergen County Sheriff's K-9 unit.

Police said the search yielded 4.5 ounces of heroin and about $3,000 in cash.
