2 Suspects Charged In Fort Greene, Brooklyn Police Shootout
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two suspects were charged Friday night, following a shootout with police officers in Fort Greene, Brooklyn earlier in the week.
Quashawn Smith, 23, and Davon Morrison, 24, both of Brooklyn, were each charged with attempted murder, attempted assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing of a police officer, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief, police said.
It all started around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, when police said three plainclothes officers in the unmarked car observed three men involved in a quarrel near Park and North Portland avenues, police said.
When the officers turned their car around to approach the men, at least two of the suspects opened fire, police said.
"I heard a 'pow, pow, pow, pow, pow,'" resident Beverly Thomas told CBS2's Andrea Grymes on Thursday. "A lot of shooting."
The unmarked car was hit numerous times, but the shots missed the two officers and lieutenant inside, police said. They returned fire as the suspects took off on foot, police said.
Investigators found a .45-caliber gun under the tire of a nearby vehicle.
One of the suspects later turned up at Beth Israel Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg, police said. He was taken into custody in stable condition. Police said the other two suspects were apprehended Thursday morning in Brooklyn.
The three officers were taken to the hospital for ringing in their ears.
