NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are trying to find a Siberian husky puppy that they say is missing after an apartment in the Bronx was burglarized.

Nancy Torres' husband came home around noon on Tuesday to find their second floor apartment on Underhill Avenue in the Bronx ransacked, with thieves taking about $1,000 in cash, a PlayStation system and several pairs of her son's sneakers, CBS2's Mark Morgan reported.

"Was like a hurricane -- when you see the hurricanes, they drop everything," Gaudencio Rosendo said. "Every single drawer from the furniture -- everything was on the floor."

Luna, their 3-month-old husky puppy was stolen as well. Police told Torres the burglars used paintballs and pepper spray on the three other dogs in the apartment.

When I walk in, you can't even breathe , because it was two different chemicals," Rosendo said.

Torres, her husband and five children are back in the apartment, but are shaken by the robbery. She has plastered the neighborhood with flyers in hopes of getting her puppy back.

"My kids, they cry a lot in the night, they miss the puppy," Torres said."I want my puppy back."
