UConn Chef Forgives Drunk Student For Mac And Cheese Fight

STORRS, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A food service worker at the University of Connecticut is offering forgiveness after a confrontation with a drunken student who was demanding jalapeno-bacon mac and cheese.

Union Street Market Chef Bill McKay tackled UConn freshman Luke Gatti, of Long Island, after he became aggressive with a manager who denied him service because he was carrying an open container of alcohol in the building.

In a letter published by UConn student newspaper The Daily Campus, McKay said he accepts Gatti's apology, but still believes he should be expelled.

On Oct. 4, Gatti was caught on video using expletives and shoving the manager before McKay tackled him. Gatti was arrested by a police officer and spit at the manager before being led out of the building.

Gatti has since posted his own apology for the incident, saying he was "to say the least, very intoxicated" at the time, and that he is very ashamed of himself.

McKay said it was time for the public to stop beating up on Gatti, who is due in court Nov. 3 on charges of breach of peace and criminal trespass.
