Nassau Lawmakers Expand Panic Alarm Program For Businesses, Religious Institutions
NASSAU COUNTY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The panic alarm program used by schools in Nassau County will be expanding.
Now, county lawmakers are offering the program to religious institutions and businesses, like shopping malls, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
"It's vitally important. You know, government has no more important responsibility than to try and keep our citizens safe," said Nassau County Leg. Steve Rhodes.
The panic alarms have a two-way microphone so that those in need can communicate directly with 911, and a smart phone app allows callers to communicate with law enforcement through text messaging.
