Pace University Cuts Ribbon On World's Tallest College Dorm

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Pace University has cut the ribbon on what's being billed as the tallest dorm in the world.

The new dormitory at the corner of William and Beekman streets offers stunning views of of the city and spacious rooms.

University executives held a ribbon-cutting ceremony outside the 34-story residence hall Tuesday.

"I live in a triple, and it's a very, very spacious triple," said upperclassman Connor Burns, who moved in last month. "It's a really nice setup. Modern amenities, bathroom is gorgeous. We have this humongous chef-style kitchen."

Universities nationwide are competing for students and their dollars with amenities.

The building, which is home to 770 upperclassmen, is one of two new dorms built recently as Pace tries to accommodate more out-of-state students.

Once a commuter school, 70 percent of the university's freshman class now lives on campus.
