Need Hotel Room Service? There's An Emoji For That

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If you've ever found yourself hungover in a New York City hotel room and wishing you could use superior mind power to summon some Advil and a drink, your dreams have come true -- well, sort of.

The Aloft Manhattan Downtown is now offering emoji room service at its Financial District location.

The program -- called Text it, Get it or TiGi for short -- allows guests at the hotel to simply send a text message with their room number and a string of emojis that, when combined, signify a package of goodies that will then be brought swiftly to their door.

Aloft's pilot program at the newly opened hotel offers six packages in a menu provided to guests that range from needed toiletries, to hangover remedies, and even a sightseeing offer or "Surprise Me" package.

Hungry for some snacks? Text a candy bar, lollipop and cookie to the hotel's dedicated TiGi phone number and the hotel staff will bring you Coca Cola, Doritos, Snickers and a chocolate brownie -- the hotel's $10 "The Munchies" package. Send a text of a water droplet, a pill, and a banana for a hangover remedy package. Or use a phone and plug emoji for a phone charger to be sent to your room.

"At Aloft, we're always looking for ways to shake up the hotel stay," said Brian McGuinness, Global Brand Leader, Starwood's Specialty Select Brands in a statement on the official announcement on Aloft's website. "We look to consumer behavior and think about how to integrate these trends into the Aloft experience. The rise of emoji was a logical next step, the perfect new wave of guest communications."

Since emojis can often be a universal langue, the hotel chain said the next stop for its new emoji room service will be Europe and Asia.
