De Blasio Praises Breezy Point, Takes Shot At Bloomberg Over Sandy Recovery
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio traveled to Breezy Point Queens on Tuesday to praise the community for its recovery after facing devastation from Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
"Coming back now almost three years later, it's absolutely amazing what people have achieved," de Blasio said. "And we're proud to have been a part of it."
Without mentioning him by name, de Blasio took a shot at his predecessor, Michael Bloomberg, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported.
"The day I had the honor of taking this office, January 1st, 2014, we didn't have a single construction start under Build It Back and we did not have a single reimbursement check in any families hand," de Blasio said.
It took a full overhaul to Build it Back. He crowed that his administration has racked up nearly 1,900 construction starts -- with 1,200 of them being completed.
During Superstorm Sandy on the night of Oct. 29, 2012, more than 130 homes were wiped out by a horrific fire in Breezy Point, Queens.
