`Miles For Paws' Team To Run TCS New York City Marathon To Raise Funds For Big Apple Shelter Animals

New York (CBSNewYork) The TCS New York City Marathon is coming up Sunday, November 1, and one group of runners is going to the dogs... or cats... or rabbits!

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals is a non-profit 501c3 charity that offers resources to 150+ rescue organizations across the New York Metro area, that help reduce euthanasia by pulling at risk animals out of the city shelter system.

The "Miles For Paws" team, in partnership with New York City Roadrunners, will be running the marathon to raise funds to help save even more lives of Big Apple shelter animals.

"Our team consists of people who are athletes, who enjoy physical activity and want to do something good for New York City's animals", Alliance Director of Development Francesca Carson told 1010 WINS. "Our runners in the marathon are raising resources to support the programs and services that we offer to our rescue partners in the city."

Those programs include:

- Wheels Of Hope: Transports at risk animals out of the city shelters to other rescue organizations, foster homes and veterinary appointments.

- NYC Feral Cat Initiative: Helps to address the overpopulation of feral and street cats in New York City through "TNR" (trap-neuter-return) programs.

- Helping Pets and People in Crisis: Assists people facing temporary personal or financial challenges so they don't have to give up their pets.
