Police Commissioner Bill Bratton also discussed security for the event.

He said there will be 14,000 barricades, 356 rolls of blue police tape, 13 command posts and 1,866 officers along the 26.2-mile route.

"In addition to that, there will be a lot of what you don't see behind the scenes -- the counterterrorism people," the commissioner told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond. "Terrorism always remains a concern, although there's no specific threats that we're looking at at this time directed against the event."

It's one of the busiest weekends in recent history for the NYPD, with the World Series and the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade mixed in.

An estimated 50,000 runners are expected to take part in the marathon on Sunday. The race runs from Staten Island to Manhattan, starting at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

The race started in 1970 with 127 runners.
