Hoboken Mayor Calls On Port Authority To Create Emergency Plan For Future PATH Disrputions

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer wants an efficient emergency plan and more communication from the Port Authority after a broken rail slowed down the morning commute for some PATH riders Friday.

Service was suspended on PATH's Hoboken to World Trade Center and Hoboken to 33rd Street lines during the height of the morning commute for about an hour, resuming around 9 a.m. with heavy delays.

NJ TRANSIT provided buses and cross honored PATH customers in Hoboken and New York Penn Station.

But Zimmer said the Port Authority needs to create an emergency plan "that works like clockwork" to deal with future disruptions.

"There should be immediate options that are in place, planned and communicated out to the public and that's not what happened this morning," Zimmer told 1010 WINS.

Zimmer said there is a "transportation crisis" in the area and people need to have a reliable way to get to work every day.

1010 WINS has reached out to the Port Authority for comment.
