Paterson To Beef Up Police Presence After 11 Gun Crimes In Less Than 10 Hours

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Paterson's police director is vowing to put more officers on the streets in response to the worst outbreak of gun crime in the last five years.

In less than 10 hours between Thursday night and Friday morning, the city saw four shootings, two carjackings, and at least five armed robberies.

The unusually warm November weather may have played a factor, as more people tend to congregate outside, Police Director Jerry Speziale told The Record.

Speziale said he planned to redeploy manpower and send plainclothes units into trouble spots on Friday night.

The four shooting victims are in stable condition.
