Reward Offered For Gunman Who Killed Man, Injured Woman And Girl In Plainfield

PLAINFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a gunman who fatally shot a man and injured two others, including a 6-year-old girl, in Plainfield, New Jersey.

A tranquil afternoon was suddenly shattered by gunfire around 2:30 p.m. Friday on West 3rd Street and Evona Avenue.

"My wife's on the deck over here," Edgar Zacarias told CBS2's Steve Langford. "My niece too."

Zacarias is still in shock as he showed CBS2 where his 6-year-old niece was shot twice and his wife once on the front porch of his home.

Killed was 24-year-old Anthony Bowles, who was walking on the sidewalk and according to witnesses, tried to run for his life.

Bowles staggered through the yard next door, collapsing on the front door of his friend's place, Langford reported. He died shortly after at the hospital.

Neighbors said it was absolute chaos as police searched for the gunman around the corner where the suspects are believed to have abandoned a car, Langford reported.

"Somebody saw something and somebody needs to talk," one resident said.

"You know, we live here, we should be safe," said another.

Zacarias said his wife is too afraid to speak publicly about what she saw. The couple is now ready to flee this neighborhood.

"I gotta move because I don't like that for my kids," he said.

Police said the man who was killed was unrelated to the group on the porch. It's unclear if he was the intended target.

The 6-year-old girl was shot in the legs and was taken to the hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown.

Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to contact Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force Sgt. Joseph Vendas at 908-358-3048.
