Police Identify Woman Hit And Killed By Bus In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have identified an elderly woman who they said was killed after being hit by a private bus in Queens earlier this week.

Aglaia Gouaris, 84, was trying to cross Main Street outside of the crosswalk at the intersection of Kissena Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when she was hit, police said.

The charter bus, operated by Skyliner Tours, was stopped at a red light in the northbound lane of Main Street, police said. When the light changed, it drove forward, hitting Gouaris, who then fell to ground before being run over by the bus, police said.

Police said the driver of the bus didn't stop, but have said it's unclear whether the driver even realized someone was hit.

The bus and the driver have since been located, police said. NYPD investigators said the Skyliner bus was headed to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.

So far, no arrests have been made. City leaders said Gouaris is the third pedestrian to be killed by a bus this week.

A spokesperson from the Skyliner bus company said that they are cooperating with police in the investigation.
