Matt Harvey On Scott Boras: 'I Will Be With Him For My Entire Career'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mets co-ace Matt Harvey won't be eligible to be a free agent until after the 2018 season.

If the Mets don't lock him up before then -- and he stays healthy and continues to put up big numbers -- the 26-year-old will be in line for a massive payday when he hits the open market.

And Scott Boras will be there every step of the way.

Harvey told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal this week that he has no plans to part ways with the agent. In fact, he plans to employ Boras for as long as he's in the big leagues.

"I will be with him for my entire career," the National League Comeback Player of the Year told Rosenthal.

So don't expect Mets general manager Sandy Alderson to lock up the right-hander to a long-term extension before 2018.

The speculation about Harvey potentially firing Boras came in the wake of some controversy toward the end of the 2015 season. Boras, considered by many to be the most well-known and high-profile agent in baseball, came out and said that his client should be restricted to an innings limit just a season removed from Tommy John surgery.

There was some question as to whether the former All-Star would be shut down at the end of the season or be limited in the playoffs. Harvey ended up pitching down the stretch and in the postseason, but he was put in a very difficult and uncomfortable situation.

Harvey went 13-8 in the regular season, posting a 2.71 ERA and striking out 188 in 189 1/3 innings pitched.

He made four starts in the playoffs, going 2-0 with a 3.04 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings pitched.
