Police: Man On Bicycle Snatched Wallets, Purses In Staten Island Shopping Center

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Thursday were searching for a suspect who has been riding around on a bicycle snatching wallets and purses from Staten Island store customers.

The suspect has struck three times in the area of the Hylan Plaza shopping center in New Dorp Beach, Staten Island, police said.

On Friday, Oct. 23, at 7:10 p.m., the suspect rode up to a 75-year-old woman walking into the Stop and Shop at 2754 Hylan Blvd., and took her wallet from her cart, police said. The wallet contained an undetermined amount of money and credit cards.

On Tuesday, Oct. 27, around 7:05 p.m., a 53-year-old woman was walking into the Pathmark at 2660 Hylan Blvd. when the suspect pulled up and took her purse – also containing money and credit cards – from her cart, police said.

On Saturday, Oct. 31, around 7:30 p.m., a 53-year-old woman was walking into the K-Mart, also at 2660 Hylan Blvd., when the suspect rode up and took her purse with money and credit cards, again from her shopping cart, police said.

Police have released surveillance video of the suspect.
