Students Evacuated After Dorm Fire At Stony Brook University

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A fire at Stony Brook University on Saturday night forced students to evacuate from one of the college's residence halls.

The fire was reported in a dorm room in one of the 28 residence halls on the Long Island college campus.

University officials said there was no one in the dorm room when the fire began. It has since been extinguished.

A spokeswoman for the college said Saturday night there were no injuries reported, but the building remained evacuated. She said students would be housed for the night in other dorm rooms on campus.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The 1,039-acre college campus is located about 60 miles from New York City and has an enrollment of more than 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
