Officials Locate Man's Body In NJ Lake After Canoe Capsized

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The body of a 27-year-old man has been found in a lake in northern New Jersey after he went missing when his canoe capsized.

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said Tuesday in a statement that authorities discovered the deceased man about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in White Meadow Lake in Rockaway Township.

A search began for the man around 3 a.m. Sunday when police arrived at the lake for reports of a capsized canoe containing two men. Officials rescued a 26-year-old man who was taken to the hospital and later released.

The 27-year-old's body was found after three days of searching, authorities said. The Morris County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the exact cause of death.

Knapp said the man's name is not being released at the request of family.

According to authorities, the death of the 27-year-old Rockaway Township man has been ruled an accident.
