Firefighters' Union Ratifies Retroactive 7-Year Contract

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The union representing FDNY firefighters voted Monday to ratify a seven-year collective bargaining agreement, which followed a yearlong feud with City Hall.

Delegates from the Uniformed Firefighters Association ratified the contract, which runs retroactive to August 2010, voted 254 to 115 in favor of the contract – amounting to a 69 percent approval rate.

The contract provides for 11 percent in raises over seven years. It also restores disability benefits for firefighters hired when the union was without a contract.

Election ballots must still be mailed to all firefighters' homes by the American Arbitration Association, and counted, by Dec. 22.
