Experts Shocked Media Allowed Into San Bernardino Killers' Home

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A California landlord used a crowbar Friday to pry open the door to let the media into the townhouse rented by San Bernardino killers Tashfeen Malik and her husband Syed Rizwan Farook.

The media was given all access to the apartment just two days after 14 people were gunned down during a holiday party in San Bernardino, shocking many who were watching it unfold on live TV, including law enforcement analyst and former NYPD Det. Harry Houck.

Houck appeared on CNN and told Anderson Cooper he was "having chills down my spine what I'm seeing here."

"This apartment clearly is full of evidence. I don't see any fingerprint dust on the walls where they went in there and checked for fingerprints for other people that might have been connected to these two. You've got documents laying all over the place -- you've got shredded documents that need to be taken out of there and put together to see what was shredded," Houck said. "You have passports, drivers licenses -- now you have thousands of fingerprints all over inside this crime scene."

The FBI executed a search warrant on the apartment and turned it back over Thursday night, David Bowdich, assistant director of the FBI's Los Angeles office, said during a press conference Friday.

"Once the residents have the apartment and we're not in it anymore, we don't control it," he said. "Once we turn that location back over to the occupants of that  residence or once we board it up, anyone who goes in at that point, that's got nothing to do with us."

Reporters inside the apartment were seen taking pictures and touching items in the couple's bedroom including Rosary beads.

A reporter also found a crib, toys, a child's book of the Quran, family pictures and shredded documents inside the Redlands, California, home. There was a computer screen, but no computer.

Houck said there should have been crime scene tape around the apartment and the scene should have been locked up. "I tell you I am so shocked. This is detective 101 for crying out loud," Houck said. "It looks like there are dozens of people in there totally destroying a crime scene which is still vital in this investigation because we don't know how many other people that they were connected with in this thing. There might be tons of fingerprints in there that we need to look at to see if there is any kind of connection  to those fingerprints or some people that may be on a watchlist or something else."

Neighbors could also be seen walking into the apartment along with the media.

"If the police are watching this right now, they better be on their way down there to be able to stop this from happening," Houck said. "This is ... I'm shaking over it. That's how irresponsible this is from law enforcement by letting this happen."

Houck also said it looked more like a garage sale than a crime scene.

Earlier Friday, a law enforcement source told CBS News that Tashfeen Malik pledged her allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in an online posting, CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton reported.

An official told The Associated Press that Malik made her posts on Facebook with an alias and deleted the messages before carrying out the attack.

The remarkable disclosure about the online activities of Malik provided the first significant details suggesting a motive for her participation with her husband.
