2 Suspects Sought In Armed Robbery On Central Park West

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for two suspects in connection with an armed robbery near Central Park early Thursday morning.

It happened around 3 a.m. at 70th Street and Central Park West.

The 33-year-old victim, who was held up at gunpoint, was not hurt but police said the suspects made off with cash, a phone and even the victim's shoes, CBS2's Andrea Grymes reported. As police searched the area, CBS2 cameras captured a shoeless man getting into the back of a squad car.

Investigators said the armed suspect is about 5'10" with a mustache. He was wearing brown Timberland boots and a black North Face jacket.

Police said the second suspect is about 5'8" with a stocky build. He was wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and had his hair in braids.

Three other robberies occurred in and near Central Park between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

A group of at least four teens is suspected in a pair of armed robberies near the reservoir and Park Drive near West 96th Street, WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported. Those crimes occurred about a half an hour apart, while victims say as many as six suspects robbed them at gunpoint a short time later on East 86th Street.

Police said the suspects in those incidents were also armed and stole purses, credit cards and phones. No one was seriously injured.

Police said the mugging does not appear to be linked to the other incidents.

Reaction to the recent crimes from nearby residents was mixed.

"Even at night when I cut through, I don't really see anybody or see anything suspicious," one man told 1010 WINS' Al Jones. "That's alarming to me that -- I didn't even know there were robberies at the park."

"I guess it does make me concerned, but not so concerned that I'm gonna change anything," said Alex Gray.

"To be very honest I don't feel 100 percent safe," said Nastassia Welter.

The investigation is ongoing.
