New Yorkers, Tourists Enjoying Unseasonably Warm December Weather

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- While some are wishing for winter white, others are getting ready to enjoy time outdoors Sunday.

As CBS2's Ilana Gold reported, New York City is seeing 60-degree temperatures for the fourth day in a row. By 11 a.m., it had reached 66 in Central Park, breaking the record high for the day set in 1923, WCBS 880's Alex Silverman reported.

"It's absolutely amazing," said Robin Agricola, of Boston. "It's such a gift this time of year to be able to walk around outside with no coat on."

Unseasonably warm December weather has been bringing crowds to the parks, motivating many to get out and exercise.

"This is a treat," said John Zile, of the Upper East Side. "It's wonderful to see Christmas lights and bike at the same time."

Earlier in the day....families flocked to riverside park near 116th street in Manhattan pushing children in strollers, and some little ones even going barefoot!

Winter fest in Westchester County has a different feel this year. While there were rides, ice skating and the Christmas tree, the record warm weather has people has people scratching their heads.

"It's amazing, it's amazing, it's the first time I've had coming here and it's 70 degrees -- we're just wearing hardly anything," Vincent Conte told CBS2's Brian Conybeare.

Some were venturing to places they normally wouldn't go in December.

"I'm going to the beach tomorrow actually," Marcus McGuire, of Morningside Heights, said Saturday. "I'm going to take a long walk at Riis Park up to Breezy Point because I know it's going to be nice."

And no chill in the air means ditching the layers and winter coat.

Scott Bernstein, of Levittown, Long Island, said he's digging out his golf clubs Sunday and teeing off in a T-shirt.

"I'm a golfer, so I can do without the winter all year," he said.

Leewood Golf club in Eastchester where the had 80 golfers on the course Sunday.

"It's definitely the best we've seen in decades," Dean Johnson, a Leewood Golf Club pro, said. "So we're seeing a good trend in the weather...and it's been fantastic."

In Hoboken, New Jersey, outdoor seating that's usually empty this time of year is bustling.

"I like this weather a lot," said Tori Glastock, of East Brunswick, New Jesey. "It feels like I moved out of New Jersey."

Stephanie Noga said she doesn't need a coat or even long sleeves.

"I'm kind of sweating honestly," the Utica, New York, resident said while wearing a tanktop.

But some say the warm December weather is making it difficult to get into the holiday spirit.

"We listened to 'White Christmas,' like the song where 'I'm hoping it snows for Christmas,'" Zile said. "And I was like, this is crazy; it's definitely not going to snow."

"My wife is disappointed," said Wayan Vota, of Washington, D.C. "She wanted the cold, crisp New York for Christmas. I'm really excited to not have to be bundled in a coat with two screaming children complaining how cold it is."
