Schneiderman: Pier 1 Imports To End On-Call Scheduling For Employees

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Thursday that Pier 1 Imports will end on-call shifts at stores across the state by Jan. 17, and do it nationally by the end of March.

Schneiderman said the retailer plans to require managers post store work schedules at least 10 to 14 days in advance.

Pier 1 Imports, which operates more than 1,000 stores in North America, did not immediately respond Thursday to requests for comment.

Schneiderman's office has sent letters to 14 companies questioning the practice of requiring workers remain available for last-minute shifts.

Retailers that have agreed to stop include Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, J.Crew, Urban Outfitters, Bath & Body Works and Victoria's Secret.

The other companies contacted say they were not using on-call scheduling.
