With Christmas Approaching, Cold Weather Could Impact Last Minute Shopping

WESTFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The cold weather could have an impact on the last shopping weekend before Christmas.

CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported the temperature was 40 degrees late Friday night -- but with whipping winds, it seemed wintry in a way rarely seen so far this season.

"Walking around I have been really freezing; forgot my jacket," Isabelle Zacharia told CBS2's Christine Sloan.

Santa's presence in Westfield was a reminder that Christmas is around the corner. Some people said they haven't bought all of their gifts, but may not brave the chilly temperatures this weekend to finish up.

"I am done. I am going to bake all day tomorrow indoors. I am done," Joyce Matuz said.

Many, including one man who decided to wear shorts, were unwilling to accept that it's winter.

"It's a bit chilly. I am not going to lie," Rory McGovern said.

A few people were bundled up, heavy coats and boots were absent. Many seemed confused about what to wear.

"Have to go buy a new outfit," Leslie Lewis said.

There are those who miss the chilly weather of years past that turned lawns into winter masterpieces.

Now, those days are on some people's wish lists.

"I think it's totally awesome. It finally feels like Christmas," Althea McDevitt said.
