Packages Stolen From Brooklyn Apartment Building, Cops Say

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is searching for two suspects in connection to a burglary in an apartment building on Vernon Avenue and Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn.

"It's a violation I now know someone just walked into our building and took our things, Janine Dupree, a resident, told WLNY TV 10/55's Ilana Gold.

Surveillance footage caught the two suspects watching Fed Ex delivery men drop off backages at the Bedford-Stuyvesant building on Nov. 19.

"They came in and out of the building with nothing, and then leave with a plastic bag full of boxes," Dupree said.

Residents told Gold roughly half a dozen packages were stolen.

"You get an email notification saying the package was delivered, then when you come home to get it, it's not there," Scott Hawley said.

Victims of the burglary said when police were out here investigating, other people in the neighborhood said they had their packages stolen too.

Police say it's unclear if all of the crimes are linked.

With Christmas season in full swing, police are reminding the public to be more vigilant when dealing with doorstep package deliveries.

Police advise to always require a signature to accept packages, and if possible, to designate a drop-off time for the package to be delivered when you are at home.

If you're away, police suggest having the package delivered to an alternate address you trust -- like your office or a friend or relative's house.

According to a new report from InsuranceQuotes.com, 23 million Americans have had packages stolen from their doorstep.
