Workers To Install 288 New Waterford Crystals On New Year's Eve Ball

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Preparations are set to begin Sunday on the New Year's Eve ball in Times Square.

Workers will start installing 288 new Waterford crystals on the ball atop One Times Square. The new design celebrates the "Gift of Wonder."

This year's line up for the New Year's Eve celebration has stars like Carrie Underwood, Wiz Khalifa and Demi Lovato.

"It truly is an incredible night of a mix of all these different types of entertainment," Jeffrey Strauss with Countdown Entertainment told WCBS 880's Stephanie Colombini.

Strauss said this year's headliner is singer-songwriter Jessie J. who will sing a famous John Lennon song just before the ball drops.

"In a year where we've had so much to reflect on, to have Jessie J. singing 'Imagine,' where the whole message is being united as one, it's just a great way to finish 2015 and start the new year," he said.

Attendees can also start the year basking in the remarkably mild weather expected for the celebration.
