1/3 CBS2 Sunday Afternoon Weather Headlines

By Matt DeLucia
CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Good afternoon, folks! Despite the chilly feel out there, it can almost be considered mild compared to what's knocking on our door. We'll top out in the 40s today with wind chills in the 30s. Mostly clear skies tonight as temps drop below freezing in Central Park for the first time in over nine months! Expect a low of 28, with teens in the far northwest suburbs.

Tomorrow will be the coldest day so far this season as temps struggle to reach the freezing mark in the city. We'll have plenty of sunshine, but that will be accompanied by gusty winds out of the north making it feel like the teens for many. A stray flurry can't be ruled out.

Overnight Monday into Tuesday will bring even colder temps, as we drop into the single digits and teens ... 16 in NYC. That's BEFORE the winds are factored, so it'll be feeling more like sub-zero in the NW suburbs and single digits around the city. Just plain frigid!

The good news is this first arctic blast will be a brief one. Temps climb back into the 40s by the end of the week. It will be a dry stretch however, as our next precip chance doesn't arrive until late Friday into Saturday.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and get the winter gear ready!
