Cops: LI Man Intentionally Hits Victim With Car, Starts Fire At Gas Station

WYANDANCH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man has been arrested in connection to two separate incidents occurring in the first few days of 2016.

Maleek Ward, 18, of Wyandanch, was arrested alongside three others after Suffolk County Police found the suspects parked in a car while one of the passengers smoked marijuana. According to police, Ward was also carrying a loaded handgun at the time of his arrest.

After further investigation, it was revealed that Ward also allegedly intentionally hit a man with a 2012 Toyota SUV at a BP gas station in Wyandanch on January 1, police said.

According to police, Ward also hit a gas pump after making impact with the victim, causing a small fire.

Three others were also arrested in connection to Saturday's incident. Tony Whitehead, 23, of Central Islip, was charged with an outstanding warrant, Frederick Booker, 26, of Central Islip, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Daquan Cannon, 24, of Central Islip, was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 5th Degree.

Ward is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon  in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana for the first incident, and Assault in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree for the incident on Jan. 1, police said.

Ward is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 4.
