Young Boy Accused In Brazen Cell Phone Theft At Saddle Brook Restaurant

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A young boy has been accused of committing a brazen cell phone theft at a New Jersey restaurant.

As CBS2's Tony Aiello reported, he had some help in committing the crime.

"She teach her child how to steal," a woman said.

"Not good!" another woman added.

"Shows selfishness, and just sketchiness all around," a man said.

The camera didn't blink on Sunday, as a woman gave a little boy a lesson in larceny at the Hibachi Grill.

She directed the pre-teen to grab a $600 cell phone that another customer had dropped on the floor.

He cast a nervous glance over his shoulder as he carried it to the woman waiting outside.

Police estimated that the boy was between 11 and 13-years-old. He was just slightly younger than the purse thief captured on camera at a gap store in the Bronx.

The NYPD said the Monday before Christmas, a teenage girl spotted a purse someone had left on the floor. She nonchalantly brought it over to a pile of clothes before walking away with the purse and $100 inside.

It's a risky thing to try with an ever growing number of surveillance cameras watching your every move.

"Where I work there's cameras everywhere. You should be mindful what you do when there's cameras around you," Henderson Polanco said.

Police hope surveillance video will help them catch both of the young lawbreakers.
