Ben McAdoo A Candidate For Giants, Eagles Head Coaching Jobs

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Could offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo soon become head coach Ben McAdoo?

The Giants' playcaller is a candidate for at least two NFL head coaching jobs.

New York co-owner John Mara said Tuesday the team planned to interview McAdoo, as well as defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, to replace Tom Coughlin, who resigned Monday. McAdoo reportedly interviewed for the job that same day.

McAdoo will also interview for the Eagles' head coaching vacancy Thursday, the New York Post reported. Philadelphia fired coach Chip Kelly on Dec. 29.

Under McAdoo, 38, the Giants' offense ranked sixth in the NFL this past season in scoring offense (26.2 points per game) and eighth in total offense (372.2 yards per game).

On WFAN on Monday, quarterback Eli Manning said he'd like to see McAdoo back with the Giants in 2016.

"I guess from a selfish standpoint, yes, I'd like to be in the same offense," Manning told WFAN's Mike Francesa. "I think Coach McAdoo and I work well together. I think this year I really had a firm grasp of the offense and what we were doing and on the same page, and I thought we did a good job. We lost some important guys, some key guys to the offense, but were still able to score a lot of points."

On his show Wednesday, Francesa said McAdoo appears to be the early favorite for the Giants' job.

New York is also expected to interview Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase and former Bills coach Doug Marrone, ESPN reported.

There also was a lot of buzz surrounding Saints coach Sean Payton, but he announced Wednesday he's staying in New Orleans.
