Hawthorne Homeowner Creates Winter Wonderland With Man-Made Snow

HAWTHORNE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Mother Nature isn't dishing out much snow so far this season, so some are taking matters into their own hands.

As CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported, if you drive along 6th Avenue in Hawthorne, New Jersey, the lawns are all emerald green -- until number 92.

"It's awesome being the only house in Hawthorn and Passaic County that has snow," said homeowner Michael Jannicelli.

Jannicelli said his homemade North Pole is a childhood dream come true.

"I had a lady pull over to the side over there, get out of her car, look both ways, run across the street, touch it," he said.

Wanda Guse walked by and had to do the same.

"This is amazing," she said.

Jannicelli started making snow on Monday with a snow gun.

The magic maker can crank out 1 inch per hour under the right conditions. It needs to be at least 35 degrees and the relative humidity just right, Murdock reported.

After two nights in action, the snow in spots is 10 inches deep.

Jannicelli's son, Michael, said word of his snow is spreading fast.

"When I walk into school in the morning I at least get five kids: 'how did you get snow on your lawn?'" he said.

On Friday, classmate and his parent stopped by to see it for themselves, and even snapped a few pictures.

"It's a lot more than I thought," said Alicia Struck.

"It's a riot. I love it," said Anne Germain. "Especially when he shoveled, that was even funnier."

Next week, when cold air drops in again, Jannicelli said he plans to make 2 feet of fresh powder.
