Report: Giants Hiring Ben McAdoo As Next Head Coach

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Ben McAdoo will reportedly be the New York Giants' next head coach.

NFL.com reported the hire Wednesday night. Multiple other reports had said the Giants and McAdoo were closing in on a deal.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported that an official announcement is expected Thursday.

McAdoo, 38, has served as the Giants' offensive coordinator the past two seasons under Tom Coughlin, who stepped down last week after 12 seasons.

Under McAdoo, the Giants' offense ranked sixth in the NFL this past season in scoring offense (26.2 points per game) and eighth in total offense (372.2 yards per game).

On WFAN last week, quarterback Eli Manning said he wanted to see McAdoo back with the Giants in 2016.

"I guess from a selfish standpoint, yes, I'd like to be in the same offense," Manning told WFAN's Mike Francesa. "I think Coach McAdoo and I work well together. I think this year I really had a firm grasp of the offense and what we were doing and on the same page, and I thought we did a good job. We lost some important guys, some key guys to the offense, but were still able to score a lot of points."

McAdoo also interviewed for the Eagles' head coaching job, and according to ESPN, he was considered one of two front-runners there.

McAdoo will likely promote from within to fill the Giants' now-vacant offensive coordinator position, La Canfora reported.

The Giants also interviewed defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, former Bills coach Doug Marrone, former Falcons coach Mike Smith, Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase and Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. Gase was hired as the Miami Dolphins' head coach last weekend.

The team also planned to interview Bengals offensive coordinator and former Raiders coach Hue Jackson, but he was hired Wednesday by the Cleveland Browns.
