Police: Knife-Wielding Man Shot By Officers On Lower East Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 25-year-old knife-wielding man was shot by officers on the Lower East Side overnight, according to police.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police said officers were called to 765 FDR Drive for a report of a violent and emotionally disturbed person armed with a knife.

When officers arrived, police said the man refused to drop the weapon and approached the officers. He was shot once by an officer in the torso, police said.

The man was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, where he is now stable, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported. Two officers were also taken to another hospital for observation.

Police said the knife was recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
