Anne Frank's Stepsister: Trump 'Is Acting Like Another Hitler'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The stepsister of Anne Frank is not a fan of Donald Trump.

In an op-ed for Newsweek to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, 86-year-old Eva Schloss compared the Republican presidential hopeful to Adolf Hitler.

"If Donald Trump becomes the next president of the U.S. it would be a complete disaster. I think he is acting like another Hitler by inciting racism," she said.

Trump has come under fire for his plan to ban Muslims from entering the U.S.

Schloss, who is the co-founder of the Anne Frank Trust UK, compared what Jewish refugees went through during the Holocaust to what's happening with Syrian refugees today.

"The situation today is worse than it was under Hitler because at that time all the Allies — the U.S., Russia and Britain — worked together to combat the terrible threat of Nazism. If we don't work together, the world will never be able to resolve the threats it faces today," she said in the Newsweek op-ed.

A recent CBS News/New York Times poll revealed Trump continues to lead his GOP opponents nationally among Republican primary voters. The billionaire received 36 percent of support, while his closest competitor, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), garnered 19 percent.

Trump is skipping out on Thursday's GOP presidential debate on Fox News despite the Iowa caucus being right around the corner.
