Construction Worker Impaled On Rebar After Fall In Flatiron District Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A construction worker was hospitalized Wednesday after a gruesome accident in Manhattan.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. at a building on 17th Street and Sixth Avenue in the Flatiron District.

Police said the worker fell from the fifth floor to the basement and was impaled on a piece of rebar, CBS2 reported.

"Rebar is old rusty steel," construction worker Will Hamlet said. "The rebar is going to kind of mess him up, hopefully he's alright."

The worker was impaled through the leg and abdomen, CBS2 reported. He was taken to Bellevue Medical Center in serious but stable condition, WCBS 880 reported.
